The first part of a two-part commission by Helen Grime (see also Prom 30) opens the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s first Prom. It’s followed by Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and Stravinsky’s Petrushka.
The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra presents an all-Russian programme, including Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. The evening begins with Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite before Kirill Gerstein is the soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
Matthias Pintscher conducts works by Boulez, Berg & Debussy at the Usher Hall
Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder is paired with Mozart’s Mass in C minor – the ‘Great’. Soprano Carolyn Sampson and bass Matthew Rose are among the soloists. They’re ed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and conducted by Ilan Volkov.
Alisa Weilerstein s the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra to perform Pintscher’s Reflections on Narcissus for cello and orchestra, before a performance of Mendelssohn’s music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, interspersed with text by Gerard McBurney.
