It's all about Joe Root today. He was marvellous and it was the perfect ODI innings.

West Indies captain Shai Hope at the presentation: "We started a lot better with the bat. It’s great to see Kingy back in the runs and Keacy continue his good form. He’s settled into that role nicely. He’s embraced it. He’s a quality player he’s shown that over the years and it’s great to see that consistency coming now.

On whether West Indies left runs out there: "We certainly did. The position we were in around 30 overs, 35 overs, we should’ve put on 30 to 40 more runs at least. We fell away at the end and didn’t dominate with the bat. But we have to commend the bowlers for the fight they showed to keep us in the game until the end."

England captain Harry Brook speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra on how it feels to win his first series as captain: "Awesome, very pleased with how the boys have played in the last two games.

"We probably weren't clinical enough in the field to take those chances and we probably could've kept them to 250.

"After 30 overs and they were nearly 200-2 and 300 was looking like a great score for us in the end and we had a period after drinks for about five overs when we were proper on it and it was awesome to watch.

On Root and Will Jacks' partnership: "That's why we've selected the batting depth and we've got Jacksy [Will Jacks] coming in at number seven who's had that immense partnership with Rooty and them two have played match winning knocks there.

On Joe Root's match-winning knock: "He's unbelievable and he's only getting better as well. He's someone I look up to. He's such an amazing player, such an amazing bloke. Works the hardest out of anyone I've seen. Nothing's ever right and he's always trying to get better and he's the perfect role model for any young cricketer out there.

"We had two really good performances, we probably let ourselves down a little bit in the field and if we can get into gear a bit there and there's no reason we cant have a dominant performance like the first game."

More from Joe Root on the prospect of playing at the 2027 World Cup: "I’d like to think there’s enough there to keep wanting to get better. That’s always the thing to me - as long I’ve got the motivation to go turn up to practice and get better every day. As long as you’ve that that fire in your belly, you’re adding to the group. As long as I keep scoring and contributing, I’ll keep putting myself forward. We’ll see where we are down the line."

On Harry Brook's captaincy: "The way that he’s come in and put his stamp on things is impressive. On a day like today, when things don’t always go your way, it would be easy to go back to the way things have been but he stuck to his guns. He wants to lead this team in a certain way and you’ve seen how that looks today. Credit to him for doing that and going out and playing the way he did in that scenario got us off to a great start. We know what a great player he is and in time people will see what a great leader he is."

Player of the match Joe Root at the presentation: "From being 2-2, it was nice to be there at the end and get us across the line and to finish the series with one game to go. A lot of other stuff wrapped into it as well. A tricky wicket in periods but it made for a great game of cricket. The bowlers always felt in the game. It was nice to be there at the end.

"It was an interesting wicket. When two teams get over 300 it can’t be that bad. It was managing different situations within it. Alzarri Joseph bowled exceptionally well - he got a lot out of the wicket. Will Jacks was exceptional and got us in a position where we could see it through. For him to show that maturity, in a position he’s not played in a lot, he should be extremely proud."

Ever the team man, Joe Root is deflecting from himself in his post-match interview. He praises Will Jacks, with whom he shared a seventh-wicket partnership of 144, and the way England's bowlers dragged the West Indies innings back at the end.

West Indies will be there now having lost in the 49th over, they left three overs out there by some quite brainless batting and not even trying to get the in batter, Shai Hope who was 70-odd not out, on strike to get the opportunities.

Then there was a ive nature to the bowling. The pressure dissipated and the field didn't change for 15 overs.

Where will West Indies look when assessing where that game was lost?

They were 205-2 but were bowled out for 308 in 47.4 overs.

Having looked like getting 350, he fell away despite Keacy Carty's fine century.

We are running out of things to say. Root became England men's leading ODI scorer, went past 7,000 runs today. He's just on this constant journey of ticking everything off before him and now he's head and shoulders above the rest. The innings he played today signified his position in that.

His average is way higher than anyone else who's played ODI cricket for England. He was so determined to be there at the end and the way he read the situation, soaked up pressure, saw people fall around him.

That partnership between him and Will Jacks, those last five overs of the final powerplay where they took 53 runs really propelled England to autopilot, and West Indies had no answer.

There was some classical batting there. It just shows someone of true class. He doesn't have to be biffing the ball with muscles bulging to score quickly or to win the game.
