Well, what a night.

They may have got the win, but no wonder Belgium don't like playing us.

Wales beaten and a run of nine games without defeat comes to an end.

But after an opening period where we all wondered what had happened to this new-look Wales side as Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans and Jeremy Doku pounced inside the first 30 minutes, a Harry Wilson penalty gave Wales hope.

Then a brilliant goal from Sorba Thomas had Belgium rocking before Brennan Johnson levelled.

Then there were VAR checks galore before Kevin De Bruyne had the final say on things.

A good job this is the final game of the season as it might take three months for us to take it all in.

And sorry, De Bruyne, we don't care what you say. Wales against Belgium just isn't boring.

Wales manager Craig Bellamy told Match of the Day Wales: "I'm really proud, we didn't cope with the momentum in the first half when the penalty went against us.

"We suffered for a period, but then we got a penalty, and that gave us that belief.

"I have to be honest, since September I've really felt proud to be there coach. Second half they saw what they could do, they have to understand how good they are, and that was pleasing.

"To come to a top-eight team in the world and to play that way, it's going to give us so much.

"I don't like the defeat, and I don't feel 'oh unlucky Wales', we need to win these games. But after being 3-0 down, where it could've gone the other way, for them to believe in themselves, that will give us so much going forward."

Belgium are playing catch-up in Group J after their March involvement in the Nations League play-offs.

They now have a run of double-headers to finish the campaign, starting with Liechtenstein in Vaduz before hosting Kazakhstan.

Three points behind Wales but with those two games in hand - but they still have to come to Cardiff for the return. Lip-smacking!

That was a breathless, epic qualifying encounter.

I think Wales deserved a point.

Wales captain Ben Davies told Match of the Day Wales: "Getting back as close as we did is probably why it's as painful as it is.

"We knew we could do a lot better. You could see in the second half, we managed to nick a goal before half-time and it gave us something to hang on to and we pushed them close.

"We have plenty more games we just have to focus on ourselves and hopefully results go our way."

Wales goal-scorer Harry Wilson told Match of the Day Wales: "It's a tough one to take. We didn't start great giving them a three-goal lead, but we have to take positives from the way we reacted.

"We felt we were always in the game and once we got the goal before half-time we just kept believing and kept being patient.

"We showed we can go toe-to-toe with a top-10 team and we're just gutted at the end.

"It shows what we're about, we've pulled it back before. We'd rather not give a team like Belgium a three-goal lead, but we scored three goals and we probably should be leaving with something.

"The group is far from done and if we perform like the second half we will still have a big say in this group, and if we win every game it's still in our hands."

Apart from a well-deserved break, that is.

Wales' next qualifier is the lengthy trip to Kazakhstan on 4 September, followed up with a home friendly against Canada.

Then it's England at Wembley for a 'friendly'.

I think there's only really two teams in this group, the game back at Cardiff is going to be huge.

Scoring only three goals against Liechtenstein, we might end up kicking ourselves if it ends up going down to goal difference.

Once Wales came back to 3-3, it's difficult for Belgium to step up again and go again, so credit to them for doing it, but they've got that quality.

The Welsh team got tired and mistakes started to slip in.

I think first half everyone probably thought it was game over, it must have been a very important half-time team talk from Bellamy.

Wales goal-scorer Sorba Thomas told Match of the Day Wales: "For us to go 3-0 down, I felt like we made a lot of mistakes that gave them goals.

"I don't think they showed us the respect we deserved, I think when they went 3-0 up they thought the game was done, but we showed our Welsh fire.

"The gaffer's been saying in interviews, we're a close group, we fight for each other, we play for each other, we'd run through brick walls for each other. The second half showed what we're about.

"Even though we lost the game, I feel like we won it in our own heads.

"Against countries like this you'll be punished. I can't wait to play these when we get back to Cardiff."

Craig Bellamy will be extremely proud. He'll be gutted to lose it right at the end, it's soul-destroying almost.

But in that game I was just thinking "wow". He'll be hugely proud and so he should be.

After their 1-0 win over Kazakhstan earlier in the day, North Macedonia top the group on eight points from their four games.

Wales are a point behind in second with Belgium - who have two games in hand - in third, three points behind Wales.

Kazakhstan are in fourth on three points from three games, with Liechtenstein still waiting for their first points after three games.

I was worried that second half.

Belgium looked shaky and our defence didn't look good.

What a game, I don't think any of us saw that second half coming.

What a performance from Sorba Thomas as well, deserved to get his first Wales goal.

The Wales fans are still loud and proud.

They have every right to be. Wales may have lost but the optimism around this side will stay as we head to the game in Kazakhstan in September.

I can't lie. We were checking heaviest defeats at half-time, Wales having not been three down at half-time since losing 4-0 to Spain in Cardiff in 2018.

By the end, it feels slightly disappointing that Bellamy's side couldn't hold on for a point.

What a superb second half.
