  1. 'A forward to replace Kyogo' & centre-back 'a must' - your transfer prioritiespublished at 13:11 6 June

    your views graphic

We asked for your views on what Celtic must do in the transfer window this summer.

Here's what some of you said:

Declan: I think it's clear gs are needed after watching the past few Glasgow derbies and the Scottish Cup final. With that said I think our priority has to be keeping Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda, especially if we are to do similar or to even better our performances in Europe last year.

Martin: Actually quite a few, 2025 has been sluggish. If Greg Taylor leaves then another left-back. Another centre-back as the manager clearly doesn't rate Maik Nawrocki, while Liam Scales and Auston Trusty don't convince either. Probably two wingers, Jota is out long term and another was needed anyway. Another midfielder, the cup final showed Reo Hatate's creativity when missing is a big loss, and another striker as Kyogo Furuhashi hasn't been replaced.

Sam: We should get a right-back and new left-back and one new goalkeeper, one new midfield player and two new strikers in.

Denis: Midfield never really showed consistency or convinced as a unit last season, not sure any combo really worked. So a true defensive midfielder with drive up the middle is really required, which would free up Callum McGregor to get forward. A forward to replace Kyogo, who should have never been allowed to leave without a replacement in the building.

Shaun: Celtic need to invest in a striker as Adam Idah isn't good enough. We also need a centre-back and a winger plus a new central midfielder because Paulo Bernardo and Arne Engels aren't good enough.

Andy: A centre-back is a must, since Carl Starfelt left we've had a few in alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers but none who look capable of really taking us to the next level. I'd like to see us really push the boat out to get a centre-back who is more around CCV's level.

Peter: Celtic need a proper striker in the mould of recent stalwarts like Scott McDonald. I'm a big fan of Lawrence Shankland and think they should go for him. Goals, goals and more goals.

Calum: From back to front, a centre-back with top-level experience. A central midfielder that can take some of the burden off CalMac (it ain't Bernardo) and a forward that can use his head both figuratively and literally.

  3. Scotland 'should be grateful' they have Tierneypublished at 17:56 5 June

Head coach Steve Clarke says Scotland "should be grateful" they have Kieran Tierney as the incoming Celtic defender prepares for his 50th cap.

The 28-year-old, who returns to Parkhead this summer following his Arsenal exit, is set to reach the milestone when the Scots face Iceland - live on the BBC - on Friday night at Hampden.

Despite suffering injury issues in recent years, Tierney's versatility to play at left-back and on the left of a back three has been vital throughout Clarke's reign.

"Kieran is a top, top player, we're lucky to have him," said Clarke, whose side will also face Lichtenstein on Monday.

"In recent years, he's had one or two little injury issues that have probably restricted his number of caps.

"I going down to London to meet him when he'd just moved to Arsenal to speak to him about his role within the squad and what we expected from him.

"Since then, myself and Kieran have had a really good relationship. So we should be grateful we've got him and hopefully it doesn't stop at 50 and the caps keep coming.

"There are many players in the squad now who are on over 50 caps and Kieran's just another one to add to that."

  6. Idah insists he can handle 'big pressure' at Celticpublished at 17:21 4 June

Brendan Rodgers and Adam IdahImage source, SNS

Striker Adam Idah is convinced he can handle the "big pressure" that comes with playing for Celtic.

The 24-year-old, who completed a reported £9.5m switch from Norwich to Celtic Park last summer after a successful loan spell, finished the campaign with 20 goals despite making almost half his 53 appearances from the bench.

However, he also suffered testing periods, not least after a video of him apparently vomiting from a taxi circulated on social media, prompting a stern defence from manager Brendan Rodgers.

Asked about the pressure, Idah said: "The pressure is a lot and you are expected to deliver. I think with my experience now, you have to put that behind you. You know what you are good at.

"If you don't score for a couple of games, it is not helpful to listen to an ex-player. I am not really concerned with what he thinks - I am there to do my bit.

"I had a good run in the last few games, but I know it can turn quick. That is football. There have been plenty of games I have gone without scoring in, you have to stay focused and help the team.

"There is a lot of pressure at the club to be successful. It is good, I think. Every player wants to play at a big club, but what comes with a big club is the pressure."

Rodgers' backing was welcome, but Idah has vowed to continue to live his life despite having to do so in the spotlight at times.

"At the end of the day I am a human being," he added. "I go out. I don't have to stay inside all the time. It's hard when people are videoing you, it can be quite upsetting, especially when the story is made out to be what it is not.

"It can be tough, but like I said, I am human and I'm going to carry on with my life."

Former skipper Neil Lennon had two spells as Celtic manager

In his managerial career Neil Lennon has won five Scottish Premiership titles, four Scottish Cups, one League Cup, one Scottish Championship, and one Cypriot Cup. Not a bad haul of trophies, is it?

Yet because the bulk of it - 10 of 12 - came when he helmed Celtic, Lennon feels his record doesn't always get the respect it deserves.

"I think people take it for granted," Lennon told BBC Scotland. "Sometimes I take the wins for granted as well, but the older you get, the more you realise that was good. That was really good."

Having just signed a two-year deal to remain with second-tier Dunfermline Athletic, whom he ed on a short-term basis in March, the 53-year-old Celtic icon has plenty of drive left in him.

"Football moves on quickly and people forget about you. I know my place in the game there and what I need to do for myself. That's bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to this club and to the players," he added.

"I want to be a success. I don't like talking too much about myself because I always feel like you set yourself up for a fall. But yeah, I've done okay. I want more.

"I want more experiences, I want more success, I want more silverware, I want more. I think that's just been sort of in me since I was a kid. My playing career was good in of trophies.

"I'm getting old. I don't get much excitement these days. I still have a ion and love for the game, and I want to do it my way."

Lennon, who won five top-flight titles among 11 major honours as a Celtic player, credits former boss Martin O'Neill for teaching him "everything about the game" and instilling a winning mentality.

"I learnt things at Crewe, I learnt things at Leicester and that was under Martin and that really sort of developed me into the mindset of what was needed because he had been so successful himself as a player under Brian Clough," he added.

"So that really was the sort of slam-dunk moment in my life or career was working under him for 10 years. I worked under him in his pomp and I learnt everything about the game from him.

"Martin was the one that really drove the winning sort of ethos into me."

  8. Rodgers contract 'needs addressed' but board must 'deliver gs' firstpublished at 13:39 3 June

    your views graphic

We asked for your thoughts on Brendan Rodgers' contract situation as the Celtic manager enters the final year of his deal.

Here's what some of you said:

Thom: Offer Brendan what he wants for six years. Hopefully take us to the holy grail; 10 in a row. He's the beating heart of our beloved club and the most important component in its vast machinery of moving parts.

Colin: For Rodgers to consider staying, the club will have to fully back him in this transfer window. So far he hasn't been backed and we've had typically disappointing window after disappointing window. We should be doing business now but no doubt we'll do nothing until the last minute as usual, meaning we miss out on targets, and whoever we do bring in will miss pre-season and first games of the season. I'm not expecting anything different, so I don't think he will extend his stay. That will be very disappointing but I can't blame him.

Clem: Brendan should definitely stay. He is and can build something relatively special taking into the finances available throughout other European leagues. The club need to back his and the ers' desires to make Celtic competitive in whatever European competition we are in. Not forgetting the domestic challenge that may well be coming. Who better than Brendan?

Joe: I definitely think he'll see out his contract to the end of next season. But if we strengthen in the summer with significantly more effect than the previous summer, qualify for, and have a decent showing in the Champions league and retain the domestic league title, that will probably see him leave with a 'job done' on his CV.

Paul: I would like to hope Rodgers wants a contract extension, he will need to see the board deliver on gs beforehand though. Ultimately, it really doesn't matter whether a contract extension is agreed because if an offer comes in that attracts Rodgers then the only difference it makes is how much compensation Celtic get. For that reason and that alone it should be extended.

John: Rodgers' contract needs to be addressed this summer to allow him and future player gs to be part of a medium-term plan. Anything less is poor management by the board.

Stuart: When Rodgers left the last time it hurt and I would not have had him back, it's the same football with no plan B and the first team isn't getting any better. I would not give him big money to spend unless he commits himself to the club.

  9. Bain s Falkirk after Celtic exitpublished at 13:35 3 June

Premiership newcomers Falkirk have signed Scott Bain on a one-year deal following the goalkeeper's Celtic exit.

The 33-year-old - the Bairns' first g for their top-flight return - won 14 major honours in his seven-year Celtic spell and previously made over 100 appearances for Dundee.

Bain, who has three Scotland caps, chose Falkirk over "various other offers both north and south of the border," according to Falkirk assistant Paul Smith.

"He comes to the club with a wealth of experience," Smith added. "He is really good with the ball at his feet, and he perfectly suits the play style and ethos that we have at Falkirk."

Bain said: "It's great to be here. The club is very well run and it's a really great set-up. It's full of good people, and that's a part of the reason I wanted to come here.

"The boys have done an incredible job over the last two years and hopefully I can help this season to be another successful one for the club and the fans."

Brendan Rodgers' contract situation at Celtic has been a subject again in our daily gossip column.

Former manager Martin O'Neill says he would be "really surprised" if Rodgers does not add to the 12 months remaining on his deal, but what do you think?

Although the 2024-25 season ended on a sour note following the Scottish Cup final defeat to Aberdeen, another Premiership triumph and a League Cup win added to Rodgers' stellar record at Celtic.

With just a year remaining on the current boss' deal, should the Parkhead hierarchy be urgently addressing the 52-year-old's contract to prevent any discussion becoming a distraction next season?

Or perhaps you feel it is still too early to get Rodgers to commit to a new deal? Maybe you think the end of next term presents the right time for the manager to end his second spell at the club?

  18. Why faltering 2025 gives Celtic pause for thoughtpublished at 15:29 28 May

    Kheredine Idessane
    BBC Sport Scotland Senior Reporter

    Behind the mic

Celtic's season was very impressive. A league title effectively won before the Bells; a League Cup; a highly creditable draw at Bayern Munich in the Champions League knockout stages; and a Scottish Cup final.

If offered that before a ball was kicked, most ers would have happily signed up.

A cracking campaign, yes, but Celtic's 2025 has been far from that. Standards dropped considerably. Seven defeats in five months, albeit two of those were to Aston Villa and Bayern.

Rangers (twice), Hibernian and St Johnstone all got the better of Brendan Rodgers in the Premiership while Aberdeen ruined the treble.

The Parkhead side started the season like a train but went off the rails towards the end. Cause for concern? No. More like pause for thought.

In the absence of the injured Reo Hatate and Jota, Celtic looked short of energy and creativity in the cup final. As they had done at a rather flat trophy day the week before when St Mirren felt unlucky to leave with just a point.

Rodgers fielded the same side at Hampden, much to this correspondent's surprise. With Jota unlikely to feature much - if at all - this year, can Celtic afford to entertain any summer offers for Hatate given the season-ending lack of flair?

More will be expected next term of Arne Engels and Paulo Bernardo. I suspect a creative midfielder is high among Rodgers' priorities when the transfer window opens.

Given Jota's medium-term absence, another winger will almost certainly have to be acquired. Nicolas Kuhn's sensational early-season form tailed off dramatically. Could Celtic be tempted to cash in on him if a decent offer arrives this summer?

The return of Kieran Tierney will bolster Celtic's options in both defence and attack, given his fancy for surging runs down the flank and good deliveries.

The team's tally of 112 Premiership goals en route to the title would suggest they are pretty well off up front. Kyogo Furuhashi wasn't replaced in January, however, and there were several late-season chances ed up by the otherwise excellent Daizen Maeda.

A fast, agile, natural finisher may be underlined in red ink on the manager's summer shopping list.

As will a reliable, quick centre-half with good distribution. Liam Scales has done well enough but Rodgers dropped him in favour of Auston Trusty before bringing the Irish international back when the American's form dipped.

I wonder how much of the estimated £26m the club spent on Trusty, Engels and Adam Idah would be recouped if they were put up for sale now?

Celtic spent big last summer and the manager will be hoping they go large again. And quickly. The club no longer have an automatic place at European football's top table, instead having to come through a play-off.

Can Celtic really afford to wait and see if they strike it rich again before committing to a big spend? Speculating to accumulate is surely the safer option, even for a board that prefers prudence.

  20. 'Frustration that treble got away - but season still a success'published at 12:59 27 May

    Tino
    Fan writer

    Media caption,

Watch all the penalties as Celtic lose to Aberdeen in Scottish Cup final

Let's be honest, we'd have taken a league and cup double back in August. But walking away from Hampden on Saturday, it was hard to shake the sense of what might have been.

The treble slipped through our fingers. That in itself is a reminder that winning all three trophies is brutally difficult. Celtic have managed it just eight times in 138 years.

Trebles aren't routine, no matter how often we've made them look that way in recent seasons. They demand relentless focus, unshakable depth, and a touch of luck. One off day, one moment of slackness, and it's gone.

Still, a double is a serious achievement. Brendan Rodgers returned to the club under a spotlight, and not all of it was welcoming. But he's now delivered domestic doubles in each of the two seasons since, and for that he should be applauded.

The manager deserves huge credit for guiding a squad that had its challenges throughout the season. New arrivals needed time to bed in and there was the mid-season loss of the talismanic Kyogo Furuhashi, as well as the rigours of a 10-game Champions League campaign.

The league was sealed emphatically, by an incredible 17-point margin, having already overcome closest challengers Rangers in December's League Cup final.

It's a successful season in anyone's book. However, no one at Lennoxtown will be under any illusions about what comes next. This summer is pivotal.

If Celtic want to kick on - not just defend domestic dominance but make further meaningful strides in Europe - recruitment must be sharp, intent must be clear, and the hunger must remain.

Because that's the thing about football at this level. Success isn't a destination - it's a moving target. Standing still is falling behind.

And while a double is something to celebrate, it's also a foundation to build from, not rest on. So yes, there's frustration that the treble got away. That's natural.

But there's also perspective. By and large this team delivered when it mattered and gave the fans silverware and success.

Now, with the right moves in the transfer market and continued evolution under Rodgers, there's every chance next season we can raise the bar again - and perhaps even rekindle that treble dream.
