    Areas affected: North Sea coast at Withernsea

    Flooding is expected - immediate action required

    Positive surge during high tides is expected to cause flooding from overtopping waves from tomorrow morning, Wednesday 28/05/2025, between 06:45 AM and 07:45 AM. This could cause some localised flooding. Areas most at risk of flooding include properties on North Promenade, Central Promenade, Pier Road, the end of South Cliff Road, and the Boat Park. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and are closing the South promenade floodgates. Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads, as the waves and sea spray could be dangerous.

    Flooding is expected - immediate action required

    Positive surge during high tides is expected to cause flooding from overtopping waves from tomorrow morning, Wednesday 28/05/2025, between 05:45 AM and 07:15 AM. This could cause some localised flooding. Areas most at risk of flooding include properties around the leisure centre, and behind South Promenade as far as Hornsea Burton Road, including Grainger Road and Pasture Road.
    We will continue to monitor the situation closely and are closing the North and South promenade floodgates. Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as the waves, and sea spray could be dangerous. This message will be updated by 9PM on Tuesday 27/05/2025, or as the situation changes.

    Areas affected: Tidal Thames riverside from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir

    Flooding is possible - be prepared

    River levels are expected to be high as a result of spring tides.

    The forecast high tide at Richmond is 4.70mAOD at 03:45 on 28/05/25 and 4.75mAOD at 16:15 on 28/05/25.

    Flooding of low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, which may exist for one to two hours either side of high tide. Flooding of properties is not expected.

    We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Putney Embankment (SW15), Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4), Thames Bank at Mortlake (SW14), Ranelagh Drive (TW1), Friars Lane and Water Lane (TW9), Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham, and the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

    Astronomical tide levels are rising. The river flow at Teddington Weir is low for this time of year at 21 cubic metres per second and is steady. We anticipate the flows to remain low for the next few days.

    Flooding is possible - be prepared

    A large tidal surge is expected with possible overtopping and onshore flooding as a result of high water levels. The time and date of the first forecast high water is 19:15 on 27/05/2025. The forecast tide level is 7.13 m AOD. The forecast wind strength and direction is Force 7 in a westerly direction.
    Areas most at risk include the Severn Estuary at Severn Beach including New age and Pilning.

    A small positive surge combined with some wave action is expected to cause wave overtopping tomorrow morning, Wednesday 28/05/2025, between 05:45 AM and 07:15 AM.
    North Hornsea is most at risk. Specifically, properties at most risk of flooding are around the leisure centre, and behind South Promenade as far as Hornsea Burton Road, including Grainger Road and Pasture Road.     Areas affected: Climping Seafront

    ACTIVE

    Flooding is possible - be prepared

    Wednesday's early morning tide at 00:30 on 28/05/2025 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather, with strong South Westerly Force 6 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.27 m. The total forecast tide is 6.18 metres Chart Datum (3.13 mAOD) at Littlehampton, a few centimetres higher than Monday evening's tide. For 2 hours either side of high tide, minimal flood impacts are expected. A small amount of water could find its way behind the beach and may pond on nearby land and fields, including at Climping Street Car Park and Mill Lane. Wednesday afternoon's tide at 12:45 on 28/05/2025 is forecast to be 16 cm lower (2.97 mAOD). Each tide after will be lower again, with winds easing and wave heights smaller. No further flood impacts are expected. We continue to monitor the forecast and routinely check the condition of the beach at Climping. Shingle and debris can be thrown by large waves. Access could be restricted during and after high tide. Take care if visiting Climping beach. We will update this message by 18:00 on 28/05/2025.

    Flooding is possible - be prepared

    High tides tomorrow morning may lead to flooding.
    Flooding of roads and low lying land is possible, property flooding is not expected.
    Flooding is possible around the high tide from 7:15 AM on 28/05/2025.
    The detailed tidal forecast for those who use it is for a peak level at Hinkley of 6.11 mAODN at 07:15 AM on 28/05/2025, with westerley force 6 winds
    Areas most at risk include the coastline between Gore Point and Hurlstone Point including Porlock Weir.
    After the high tide tomorrow morning, the weather is more settled and no flooding is expected.
    We are checking flood defences and closing flood gates.
    Be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.

    High tides this evening may lead to flooding. No property flooding is expected.
    Highest tide level is expected to be at the coastline between Gullhouse Point and Marine Parade at 7:15 PM on 27/05/2025. Flooding is possible 2 hours either side of this time.

    The detailed tidal forecast for those who use it is for a peak level at Avonmouth of 7.14 mAODN at 7:15 PM on 27/05/2025, with westerley force 7 winds.

    Areas most at risk include the coastline between Gullhouse Point and Marine Parade.

    After the high tide this evening, the weather is more settled and no flooding is expected. We are closely monitoring the situation and checking flood defences.

  9. Flood alert

    Areas affected: Hunstanton coast in Norfolk

    ACTIVE

    Flooding is possible - be prepared

    Strong winds and spring tides may cause large waves, and spray overtopping on the coast. Wave overtopping may take place between 19:00 and 21:00 this evening, 27/05/2025. Areas most at risk are around Hunstanton seafront. Flood gates in the area will be closed by the Local Authority which will make access difficult. The detailed forecast for those that use it is for a peak level of 4.28mAODN at 19:00 on Tuesday 27 May, which is 0.30m above tide tables, wind force 4, Southerly. (mAODN is height above average sea level, for more info refer to local tide tables). The following tide on Wednesday at 07:45am is currently forecast to be below the Alert threshold. Take care on beaches, coastal roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself or others in danger. We are monitoring the situation and are not expecting it to escalate. We will update this message by 10.30pm this evening, Tuesday 27 May.

  10. Flood alert

    Areas affected: River Mimram in Hertfordshire

    ACTIVE

    Flooding is possible - be prepared

    Flooding is affecting low lying land, roads and gardens close to the River Mimram. The situation is now improving with reduced water levels in key hotspots.

    We are monitoring the flooding affecting the Fulling Mill Lane, Singlers Marsh, and Codicote Road areas in Welwyn.

    Flooding to homes and businesses is unlikely at this time, but there may be a risk to very low-lying properties or those with basements. River levels in other areas remain below levels of concern.

    Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. We are continuing to monitor the situation.

Warning services for areas at risk of flooding from rivers or the sea are provided by the Environment Agency (EA) for England, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) for Wales and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

BBC Weather works closely with its partners to raise awareness of weather events affecting Northern Ireland which may result in flooding. Specific flood warnings, however, are not currently issued for Northern Ireland.
